clay tracings
During the Australian Ceramics Triennale, Pattie will work with clay to explore inhabiting place.
Drawing on personal rituals of place making – spending time, wandering, listening, touching, sensing, connecting, and respecting - Pattie will arrive early to Alice Springs to listen and prepare.
Mattering is the lens Pattie brings to conversations with place. Materialising outside in the trees, the installation will grow quietly and collaboratively with strings of sloppy clay. Like footsteps in the sand, patterns on the ice and words on a page, traces will form –traces of inhabiting place.
Pattie uses clay as a medium because she believes it connects her to living collaboratively with the earth – that clay somehow expresses her subconscious in form.
Clay tracing has become Pattie’s way of visually creating a conversation with place.
“Sometimes when we see … we can change.”
