Dawn's studio practice is based in Darwin, the ‘Top End’ of the Northern Territory.
Inspired by the lush tropical flora, Dawn’s work is birthed in the botanicals; pod type forms that hint of growth and survival. Utilising the mass production technique of slip casting, Dawn maintains a sense of the individual through additions and burnouts to create installations with a narrative both of commonality and diversity as she explores the relationship between us and the natural world.
Originally formally trained in fine art painting, her work moved from paint to porcelain when she immersed herself in the world of clay following a life changing diagnosis in 2013. Recognised as an emerging artist of note within the Darwin art community, she has exhibited locally, interstate and internationally. She is also the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship to undertake a porcelain focused research project in Jingdezhen, China, as soon as travel restrictions are lifted.
Dawn has been recognised by the Australia Council for the Arts for her current body of work entitled Botanically Porcelain. This work will debut at the Triennale.
