Dan is an undisputed legend of the Central Australian arts scene. Ever since his 1994 arrival in Alice this practicing artist, champion of reconciliation, community arts and cultural worker has demonstrated creative talent across a range of artistic outlets. A proudly self-taught artist, Dan is a sculptural metal worker of magnitude. He has gained national recognition for works imagined out of discarded car bonnets. He has cut and stitched an impressive body of work that includes 14 solo exhibitions, national collection acquisitions and dozens of group exhibitions. Dan’s work has been included in significant national touring shows like Perpetual Motion and annual local awards, he and his work even pop-up at festivals in friends back yards. From 1999-2021 Dan has been a cultural worker for Mparntwe custodians through arts projects that promote a better understanding and respect for Arrernte sacred sites. This includes the Yeperenye Sculpture (Araluen), Musical Caterpillar Sound Sculpture (Desert Festival), Alice to Mparntwe Sacred Sites Tours for Artists and associated exhibitions (Araluen 2010, WTS 2017).
