I was born in Lutruwita/Tasmania, the southern island state of Australia and completed a Bachelor of Economics degree at the University of Tasmania in 1972.

Soon after I found myself working with resin and fibreglass on the long curves of surfboards while playing in the ocean, before undertaking non-qualifying studies in ceramics at the School of Art in Hobart finishing in 1981. That same year I established Ridgeline Pottery focusing on woodfiring and the use of indigenous raw materials in a place-based approach to craft making. I returned to formal study and completed a Master of Art, Design and Environment at the Tasmanian School of Art (UTAS) in 2004.

Alongside my professional practice I taught in the Ceramics Studio at the Tasmanian School of Art in Hobart from 1985 to 1995 and later in the Visual Art and Contemporary Craft course at TAFE in Hobart, finishing in 2013 as co-ordinator for the Ceramics studio in that course.

My interest in woodfiring along with gathering and using local materials continues but now I also make contemporary tableware - working with outstanding chefs who seek to express an integrated plate-based response to place and season.
